The Texas Society for Music Theory will hold its 41st annual meeting at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. The keynote address will be given by Nicole Biamonte of McGill University.

Location

The meeting will be held at Texas State University's campus in San Marcos, TX. All sessions will take place in the School of Music, located at 101 Pleasant Street.

A TSMT luncheon will be held Friday, February 22. The cost is $18 for regular members and $10 for student members. The luncheon will include lemon butter chicken or quinoa salad for an entree; rice pilaf; spring salad with strawberries, walnuts, and feta; rolls; and dessert. If you wish to attend the luncheon, please select the appropriate option along with your registration. A vegetarian/vegan option (quinoa salad) may be chosen upon registration.

Travel

San Marcos is on IH-35, 30 miles south of Austin and 50 miles north of San Antonio.

TRAVELING BY PLANE

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA)

ABIA is 34 miles northeast of San Marcos, about a 40 minute drive away. An Uber from ABIA to Texas State usually runs about $50.

San Antonio International Airport (SAT)

The San Antonio International Airport is located approximately 45 miles south of San Marcos. It is about a 50 minute drive when not rush hour. A SuperShuttle or Uber usually costs around $70.

Parking

Parking on campus is tight, so we recommend car pools. Do not park in the retail area across the street from the Music Building or your car will be towed. If you have mobility issues, please email the local arrangements coordinator Rebecca Eaton (re20 at txstate dot edu) by February 4 as we can acquire a limited number of paid ADA parking spaces adjacent to the Music Building with advance notice.

Parking on Friday

Friday parking will be in the Edward Gary Street Garage Parking on Saturday

Saturday parking is free in the Pleasant Street Garage or the Matthews Street Garage.

Accommodations

CONFERENCE HOTEL

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Fairfield Inn and Suites, the closest new hotel to campus that includes complimentary breakfast. The conference rate is $99 for a standard king room or $109 for a double queen room or executive king suite. Mention "Texas Society for Music Theory" by phone to get these rates. These room rates are guaranteed if booked by Tuesday January 22, 2019.

The conference hotel is best reached by taking exit 205 from IH-35.

Many other hotels, including the Hilton Garden Inn San Marcos, can be found nearby.

Restaurants

There are several restaurants across the street from the Music Building, including Mochas & Javas (coffee shop), Pie Society (pizza), Toro Ramen, and Dos Gatos Kolache Bakery. Climb up the hill for Grins (American). Saltgrass Steak House, a ten minute walk away, features a view of the San Marcos River.

Within easy driving distance there are Austin-based chains such as Chuy's and Torchy's Tacos, local spots including Palmer's Restaurant and The Root Cellar, and a branch of the Lockhart-based Kent Black's Barbecue.

Area Attractions

On campus, Texas State boasts glass-bottomed boat tours of Spring Lake at the Meadows Center and the galleries of The Witliff Collections on the 7th floor of the Alkek Library. Further south, San Marcos features one of the largest outlet shopping destinations in the US, including Premium Outlets and Tanger Outlets. Find additional attractions at Tour San Marcos.
